Ludacris - Rest Of My Life ft. Usher, David Guetta (The EDM Review)

So the vocalists come first now, or is it the producer? Never understood that one. On with the review

Ludacris holding his chloroform rag
Where do I start with this one? The incredibly out of place "rap" from Ludacris? The fact Usher is coming out with more pop house trash? Or how about the fact it's an almost exact rip off of the Afrojack track "Can't Stop Me"?

We'll start with Lucacris. After an annoying girly vocal from Usher (introducing another awful pop song) we hear "Luda" come in with the same lyrics I've heard in over a thousand songs. "What don’t kill me, can make me stronger" Yeah, brilliant. I appreciated his effort in David Guetta's - Little Bad Girl so I wasn't going to let these bad lyrics affect my opinion of the rest of the track. So what next?

"So two drinks a night should help me live longer
I blow some smoke just to give my lungs a test"

Ludacris has promoted binge drinking and smoking within 2 lines of lyrics. Need I say more? A few lines more and I have no idea what's going on, something about his soul and more drinking. After another Usher bit I'm left wondering.. Where was his epic fast rap part? I normally despise vocals on House music but his rap in Little Bad Girl was great and really improved the track.

After this the track builds up with a low pass filtered lead which shows potential. One vanilla snare roll later and I'm listening to Afrojack - Can't Stop Me. WHATT!!!!? Without even listening to the rest of the track I looked up Can't Stop Me and no, my ears weren't lying to me. I've watched hundreds of EDM artist interviews and know for a fact that David Guetta and Afrojack are friends, I'm sure they've even collaborated. Why would Guetta blatantly rip his melody? Guetta has massive respect, even from people who don't particularly like his music so why would he risk his reputation by ripping somebody elses melody? It's crazy. But back to the song.

The drop is heavy and energetic but lacks originality. It's a very bland synth which could be designed in seconds. The synth is very "happy hardcore" and reminds me of Cascada and Basshunter's style of music. The music video at this point showcases an absolutely ludicrous (like what I did there?) dance from usher, which can only be described as the "revving a motorcycle" dance. The song plays out basically the same throughout.

So in conclusion, we have another trashy pop house track from Usher, A disappointing track from Ludacris (who is blatantly trying to cash in on the popularity of House music right now) and another awful (and ripped) pop song from Mr. Guetta, who's name is at the end of the track title? Odd.
